This is written to be read, not to be survived. If anything here is unclear, ask.
What we collect

We do not collect your party affiliation, and there is nowhere in this system to store it. That is a design decision, not a policy we could quietly change.
We do not sell anything to anyone, ever. We do not run advertising. We do not share your information with campaigns, parties, vendors or anyone else, except in the narrow cases listed below.
How your information is used
To answer your questions accurately, to tailor what you see to your seat and your stated priorities, to send you the emails you asked for, and to decide what to build next. When you ask a question, the relevant context about your seat is sent to an AI provider to produce the answer. It is not used to train anyone's model.
Who can see it
Your information sits at one of three levels, and you control which.
Private — only you. Your notes, questions, disclosures, expenses, gift records, interview answers and anything the tool has learned about your priorities. Nobody else sees these: not other members, not your board, not the public. Whoever operates Oath & Office can see them only when running the service or helping you with something you asked about.
Visible to other members — your name, title, the body you serve on and your district. This is how members find peers who hold the same kind of seat, and it is information already on the public record of your election. Nothing you create in the tool is included.
Public — only what you publish. You may choose to publish a profile page for your constituents, with a photo, your office and term, what you are focused on, and a way to contact you. You decide whether it exists, what goes on it, and when it comes down. Nothing is published by default, and publishing a profile never exposes anything from the private level above.
Outside those three levels, your information goes to the companies that run the plumbing — hosting, database, email and AI providers — only as needed to operate the service, and they are not free to use it for their own purposes. Otherwise it goes nowhere, unless the law requires disclosure, and if we ever receive a legal demand for your information we will tell you unless we are forbidden to.
A note on public office. Your own records here are private. But your public duties are governed by open-records and open-meetings laws, and material you create as an official can be subject to those laws regardless of what tool you used. We will help you handle a request; we cannot make a public record private.
Interview answers
If you spoke with us during the Phase 0 interviews: your answers are confidential and shape what gets built. We will never quote you by name without asking first, and we will never identify you to another member, a district or the press without your permission.
Seeing, correcting and deleting
You can see everything we hold about you, correct anything that is wrong, and ask us to delete your account and your records. Deletion means deletion, not deactivation. Say the word at contact@oathandoffice.org and it will be done, and confirmed to you, within thirty days.
What we keep after deletion: nothing that identifies you. We may keep anonymous counts, such as how many officials used a module, since those cannot be traced back to a person.
How long we keep things
As long as you have an account, plus a short period afterwards so an accidental deletion can be undone. Security logs are kept for a limited period and then discarded. Interview answers are kept for as long as they are useful to the project, unless you ask for them to be removed.
Security
Sign-in is by emailed link, so there is no password to steal. Your records are protected at the database level so that one member cannot read another's, and the tool is built so that private information and anything published publicly never share the same storage. No system is perfect; if something goes wrong that affects you, we will tell you directly and promptly rather than burying it.
Children
This tool is for adults holding or seeking public office. It is not for children, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this page changes in a way that affects what we do with your information, we will tell you by email before it takes effect, not after.
