What this is

A tool that helps people holding or seeking local office understand the law, ethics and duties of the job, and that offers perspective on policy from a stated viewpoint. It is early, it is free during the pilot, and it will change while you use it.

It is not legal advice

This is the important part. Oath & Office gives guidance and shows its sources. It is not a law firm, no attorney-client relationship is created, and nothing here substitutes for your solicitor. Laws change, districts differ, and facts matter. Before you act on anything with legal or financial consequence, check with your solicitor or your business manager.

We work hard to be accurate and to cite everything. We can still be wrong, and AI answers can be confidently wrong. If a rule matters to a decision you are about to make, verify it at the source we cite.

The decisions are yours

You hold the seat. You took the oath. Every vote, disclosure, filing and public statement is yours, and responsibility for it stays with you. Using this tool does not shift that to us, and we will never claim credit for your judgment or accept blame for it.

What you agree to

• Use it for your own public service, not to impersonate someone else.
• Do not use it for campaign or electioneering work.
• Do not put other people's confidential information into it, including anything from an executive session or a student or personnel record.
• Do not try to break it, overload it, or get at other members' information.
• Keep your sign-in link to yourself. It is the key to your account.

We may suspend an account that is used in these ways, and we will tell you why.

Your content stays yours

Notes, disclosures and records you create belong to you. You give us permission to store and process them in order to run the service, and nothing more. You can export or delete them at any time. The tool itself, its wording and its design belong to Oath & Office.

During the pilot

Features will appear, change and occasionally disappear. Something may break. There is no uptime guarantee, and we may change or end the service, in which case we will give notice and a way to take your records with you.

If something goes wrong

The service is provided as it is. We are not liable for decisions you make, for the acts of your board, or for losses arising from using or being unable to use the tool. This is Pennsylvania law and disputes belong in Pennsylvania courts.

Changes to these terms

If they change materially, we will tell you by email before the change takes effect.
